Muhteşem Yüzyıl

At the height of the Ottoman Empire’s power, Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent rules a world that stretches from Budapest to Baghdad. Inside his palace in Istanbul, the real drama unfolds away from the battlefield — in the harem, the divan, the corridors where viziers plot, favourites fall, and alliances are built and destroyed in a single season. At the centre of it all is Hurrem: a Ukrainian slave who, through sheer force of will and intelligence, becomes the Sultan’s legal wife and one of the most powerful women in Ottoman history.

Muhteşem Yuzyil is a palace drama on a genuinely epic scale. Four seasons, 139 episodes, and a cast of dozens of scheming, suffering, calculating characters. It aired in 50 countries. Its IMDb score of 6.9 doesn’t capture how much it changed the international perception of Turkish drama — this was the show that proved the format could travel.
