Biography
Early life and education
Barış Arduç was born on October 9, 1987, in Schwytz, Switzerland, to Turkish parents, and grew up with a dual cultural identity that would later inform the nuance he brings to his performances. The family returned to Turkey, and he eventually enrolled at the Sports Academy of Kayseri Erciyes University — an unusual academic background for someone who would become one of the country’s most recognizable actors. He trained in lifeguarding and was a certified professional before making the leap to drama studies at the Ekol Drama Theatre School. That detour through sport and water safety is one of the more colorful footnotes in modern Turkish entertainment history.
Awards and recognition
Barış Arduç’s career took flight with the romantic comedy series Kiralık Aşk (Love for Rent), where his portrayal of Ömer İplikçi made him a household name and earned him multiple major honors: the Golden Butterfly Award for Best TV Couple (with Elçin Sangu, 2015), the Golden Butterfly Award for Best TV Comedy Actor (2016), the Turkey Youth Awards Best Actor in a TV Series (2016), and the Golden Star Award for Best TV Actor (2016), along with the GQ Turkey Men of the Year Award in 2017. He expanded his range in the dark thriller Kuzgun, winning Best International Actor at the Beirut International Awards Festival in 2019, and then delivered a career-expanding performance in Netflix’s The Club (Kulüp, 2021), for which he won Best Actor in Digital Platform Series at the İzmir Film Festival in 2022. He married actress Gupse Özay in 2020 and the couple have one daughter together.
