Early life and education
Çağlar Ertuğrul grew up in İzmir and went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Koç University — one of Turkey’s most prestigious institutions. He completed his degree, which required serious dedication, before making the decision to pursue acting professionally. The discipline that engineering demands, particularly in problem-solving under pressure, has arguably shaped the focused intensity he brings to his more demanding screen roles.
He made his film debut in the 2012 action film Dağ (The Mountain), where he played a courageous Turkish soldier, a role that introduced him to a wide audience. He is married to Kayla Manukyan and has one sister, Pınar Ertuğrul.
Awards and recognition
Çağlar Ertuğrul’s breakthrough in television came with Fazilet Hanım ve Kızları (2017–2018), where his portrayal of Yağız Egemen — a wealthy, conflicted young man — won him widespread recognition and a significant fan following. He followed this with the lead role of Kerem Yiğiter in the romantic comedy-drama Afili Aşk (Stellar Love, 2019). In 2021 he joined the TRT intelligence series Teşkilat as Serdar Kılıçarslan, a Turkish intelligence officer whose dedication and moral complexity gave Ertuğrul room to show off a grittier register. He has also appeared in Magarsus (2023) as Turgut and in the film The Forger (2024). The range of his filmography — from mountain rescue epics to romantic leads to intelligence thrillers — demonstrates an actor who has made the most of the opportunities that followed an unconventional entry into the profession.
