Early life and education
Neslihan Atagül was born on August 20, 1992, in Istanbul, Turkey. Growing up in one of the world’s most culturally vibrant cities, she developed a deep appreciation for the dramatic arts early in life. She studied at Yeditepe University’s Theatre Department, where her training gave her the tools to tackle complex, layered characters. Even as a student, her presence on stage hinted at a career of uncommon depth. She married her longtime partner and fellow actor Kadir Doğulu in 2016, and the two have since become one of Turkish television’s most admired couples, known for their mutual support and warmth both on and off screen.
Awards and recognition
Neslihan Atagül’s career trajectory has been extraordinary by any measure. Her film debut in Araf (2012) brought immediate international recognition when she won Best Actress at the Tokyo International Film Festival — a rare honor for a Turkish actress at such an early stage. She then captivated millions as Neriman Solmaz in Fatih Harbiye (2013–2014), before delivering what many consider her defining performance: Nihan Sezin in the sweeping romantic drama Kara Sevda (Endless Love, 2015–2017). That series went on to win the prestigious International Emmy Award in 2017, becoming the first Turkish production to do so. She continued her excellence in Sefirin Kızı (2019–2021), earning the Best Actress award at the Golden Artemis ceremony in 2020 — cementing her status as one of Turkey’s most decorated contemporary actresses.
