Demet Özdemir is a Turkish actress and former dancer whose rise from backup performer to internationally recognised star has become one of the more compelling stories in Turkish entertainment. Born in İzmit, Kocaeli on February 26, 1992, she began dancing at fifteen to help support her family, a practical necessity that unexpectedly opened the door to a career she could not have planned.
Early life and education
Demet Özdemir grew up in İzmit with her parents, Sinan and Ayşen Yener, and her sister Derya Özdemir. She trained at the Bengü Dance School and later pursued formal acting education at Şahika Tekand Studio in Istanbul, one of the city’s most rigorous acting training programmes. Her route into television came through music videos and supporting roles before she was noticed for larger parts.
She was briefly married to singer Oğuzhan Koç from August 2022, but the couple divorced in May 2023. She has since remained single.
