Biography
Early life and education
İbrahim Çelikkol was born on February 14, 1982, in İzmit, Turkey. Like Murat Ünalmış, he arrived at acting via professional sport — he played basketball for Turkey’s under-20 national team before pivoting to modeling, where he built a successful career before hunger for storytelling drew him toward the screen. He studied acting at Beykent University and his father, Sinan Çelikkol, was also a figure in Turkish public life. The combination of athletic physicality, modeling discipline, and formal dramatic training gave him a commanding presence that directors quickly learned to trust. He now lives in Istanbul and is one of the country’s most in-demand leading men.
Awards and recognition
İbrahim Çelikkol’s breakthrough came with his role as Ulubatlı Hasan in the historical blockbuster Fetih 1453 (2012), which won him the Sadri Alışık Theatre and Cinema Award — Ekrem Bora Promising Actor prize. He followed that with critically acclaimed television work in Merhamet, the intense romantic drama Siyah Beyaz Aşk (2017–2018, earning two Golden Butterfly nominations), and Doğduğun Ev Kaderindir (2019–2021, with a Golden Artemis nomination). His international profile exploded with the Netflix original Kuş Uçuşu (As the Crow Flies, 2022), for which he won Best Actor in a Digital Platform Series at the International İzmir Film Festival. In 2024 he became the first Turkish male actor to receive the International Best Actor award at the prestigious Kineo Awards during the Venice Film Festival — a historic milestone for Turkish cinema.
