Biography
Early life and education
Akın Süreyya Akınözü was born on September 22, 1990, in Ankara, Turkey. He is the only child of Tamer Akınözü, a restaurant owner, and the actress Özlem Akınözü, who passed away in July 2024. His mother’s career in the arts gave him an early, intimate exposure to the performance profession. He attended TED Ankara College, one of Turkey’s most prestigious private secondary schools, before earning a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley — a highly unusual educational pedigree for a Turkish actor and one that reflects genuine intellectual range. After completing his degree, he chose acting over a mathematics or finance career, training at the Craft Acting Workshop in Istanbul. His combination of Ivy League-tier mathematical education and disciplined acting training gives him a distinctive analytical presence on screen.
Awards and recognition
Akın Akınözü made his television debut in 2014 and built through supporting roles in Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem (2015–2016) and 25 episodes of the acclaimed Payitaht: Abdülhamid (IMDb 8.6, 2017–2019) before landing the role that changed his career: Miran Aslanbey in Hercai (2019–2021), the internationally broadcast romantic drama that made him one of Turkey’s most globally recognized leading men. He won the Mister Nova Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series and the Golden Objective Award for Best Actor in 2019, and received nominations at the Golden Butterfly Awards and the International Izmir Film Festival. He followed Hercai with the acclaimed drama Kaderimin Oyunu (Cemal, 2021–2022) and Veliaht (Timur, 2025–2026) — the historical series Aşk ve Taht having elevated him further as one of the genre’s defining faces. He is currently in a relationship and remains unmarried, with no children.
