Delibal

Poyraz grows up in a fishing village and falls in love with Doga — a summer visitor who is entirely out of his world. They are together for one summer, and then she is gone. The rest of the film follows what that summer meant to both of them across years and distance, and what happens when they find each other again as adults who have changed.

Delibal is a romantic drama that knows what it is and does it well. Çağatay Ulusoy and Serenay Sarıkaya have the kind of onscreen chemistry that carries the film through its quieter stretches, and the coastal Turkey setting gives it a visual quality that sticks with you. Released in 2015, it performed well at the Turkish box office and remains one of the more notable films of that year.
