Early life and education
Mert Yazıcıoğlu was born on May 10, 1993, in Istanbul, Turkey. He initially pursued a practical path, enrolling in the Department of Business Administration at Istanbul Aydın University. But the pull of performance proved stronger than spreadsheets, and he soon redirected his energy toward acting, supplementing his studies with intensive training at the 3 M.O.T.A. Academy. That decision proved well-founded. His combination of formal academic discipline and hands-on dramatic training gave him an unusual groundedness for an actor his age, and he carried that quality into every role that followed.
Awards and recognition
Mert Yazıcıoğlu’s breakthrough came with his role as Baran in the hit drama Karagül in 2013, but it was his portrayal of Sinan in Netflix Turkey’s Aşk 101 (Love 101) that truly expanded his international profile when the series launched in 2019. The show’s popularity on the platform gave him fans well beyond Turkey’s borders. He followed that with strong performances in Mehmed: Bir Cihan Fatihi as Korkut, and the Disney+ Turkey series Ruhun Duymaz. In 2021 he received a nomination for Best Actor in a Digital Series at the Turkish Youth Awards for Love 101 — recognition that underlined his resonance with a younger global audience.
