Early life and education
Ebru Şahin was born on May 18, 1994, in Istanbul, Turkey. She pursued a degree in Sports Science at Istanbul University — an unusual academic foundation for an actress, but one that left her with exceptional physical conditioning, discipline, and body awareness. The transition from sports science to acting is not as abrupt as it might seem: both fields demand performance under pressure, physical self-awareness, and the psychological resilience to deliver consistently before audiences and on camera. She built on this physical foundation with formal acting preparation and broke into the industry through a series of supporting roles before landing the performance that would change her career completely. In 2022 she married Cedi Osman, the Turkish NBA basketball player who has played for teams including the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Minnesota Timberwolves — making them one of Turkey’s most recognized athlete-actress couples.
Awards and recognition
Ebru Şahin gained her first significant national television exposure through her role as Burcu in İstanbullu Gelin (2017), followed by a part in the military drama Savaşçı (Didem). The role that made her an international star came in 2019: Reyyan Şadoğlu in Hercai (Fickle, IMDb 6.6), a sweeping romantic drama that was broadcast across Turkey, the entire Middle East, Latin America, and dozens of other countries, generating an extraordinary level of international attention. She won several Best Actress awards for the role in 2020. Her next major challenge was the historical epic Destan (Akkız, IMDb 7.3, 2021–2022), a production as demanding in scope as Hercai was in emotional intensity. She appeared in Babam (Nilüfer) and has maintained her ranking as one of Turkey’s most internationally searched and followed actresses throughout the mid-2020s.
