Biography
Early life and education
Can Atak was born on December 19, 1989, in Ankara, Turkey. He began acting as a child — an unusually early start that gave him practical stage and performance experience before formal training. He later pursued rigorous academic preparation at Hacettepe University’s Ankara State Conservatory, graduating from the Theatre Department, which provided a conservatory-standard foundation in classical technique, voice, and physical performance. The combination of childhood acting experience and formal conservatory training is relatively rare in Turkish television, and it produced in Atak a performer of disciplined craft and genuine stage authority. After completing his conservatory studies, he moved through supporting television appearances before landing the roles that brought him to national and then international attention.
Awards and recognition
Can Atak gained his first significant national television recognition with his role as Asım in the popular drama Karagül (2013–2016), a long-running series that introduced him to a broad Turkish audience and demonstrated his ability to sustain complex character work over multiple seasons. He went on to appear in Reckoning (2023), an international co-production with an IMDb rating of 6.6 that expanded his exposure beyond Turkey. His most high-profile role came in 2025 when he was cast as Kara Halil in Kuruluş Orhan — the much-anticipated spin-off of Kuruluş Osman, the highest-rated historical drama franchise in Turkish television history. His portrayal of the historically significant Kara Halil, a figure tied to the founding of the Ottoman state, placed him in the center of one of the most-watched productions in Turkey’s recent television history.
