Ali Sürmeli

Ali Sürmeli is a veteran Turkish actor whose career stretches back more than five decades, making him one of the most enduring figures in Turkish television and cinema. Born on April 7, 1959, in Solhan, Bingöl, Turkey, he pursued formal acting training at the Conservatory of Fine Arts before building a body of work that spans beloved comedies, gritty crime dramas, and landmark historical productions.

Early life and education

Sürmeli grew up in eastern Turkey before moving to pursue his studies at the Conservatory of Fine Arts, where he developed the stage and screen technique that would sustain a remarkably long career. He made an early impression in theatrical productions before transitioning fully to television and film. His first major recognition came through the long-running romantic comedy Yabancı Damat (2004–2007), a widely popular series that brought his work into living rooms across the country. Around the same time he appeared in the cult crime drama Kurtlar Vadisi (2003–2005), demonstrating that he could hold his own in tonal extremes — light comedy one week, tense crime drama the next. He also appeared in both films in the celebrated Vizontele series — Vizontele (2001) and Vizontele Tuuba (2004) — alongside Yılmaz Erdoğan, cementing his place in Turkish cinema history. In recent years he joined the cast of the epic historical drama Kuruluş Osman, portraying the commanding character Sardar Karacı in Season 6. Off-screen, he has been married to actress Jülide Kural for many years.
